Q1. How do I change my details or contacts on the PMI data base?
Answer: The only way you can change your contact details on the PMI database is to access the membership section on the www.pmi.org with your PMI member id and password. PMI will send the Chapter your updated details on a regular basis.
Q2. Do I have to join PMI to be a member of the PMI SA Chapter?
Answer: Yes you do. Go to www.pmi.org, select the "marketplace" tab and select individual membership on the left had menu. Follow the online prompts and select the PMI South Africa Chapter in the components section. Once you have paid for your membership with your credit card, you will be able to access the membership section on the www.pmi.org website.
Q3. Does my membership to the PMI SA Chapter give me membership to PMSA?
Answer: No it does not, however the Chapter and PMSA have an amicable relationship and acknowledge both memberships. A Chapter member will be able to attend PMSA meetings at PMSA member rates and vice versa. The Chapter is investigating options to distribute the PMSA PM Network to Chapter members at no extra cost.
Q4. How can I purchase PMI standards through the PMI SA Chapter?

Answer: Not only do you receive the PMI member benefits, there are a number of networking opportunities as well as the opportunity to assist Chapter to serve the membership through volunteering.

Answer: Anyone can join PMI and the Chapter, you do not need any experience in project management.
Q8. If I am a member of PMI SA Chapter, can I attend PMSA’s members meetings?
Answer: Yes you can.
Q9. Where do I find more information regarding PMI SA Chapter member meetings?
Answer: On the PMI SA Chapter website under "Events".
Q10. Do we have branches?
Answer: PMI SA Chapter to date had most of its activities in Johannesburg, but on-line Chapter Branches are planned in Cape Town and Durban and we also rely on the PMSA branch network to assist with providing meeting opportunities for Chapter members.
Q11. When are you going to have meetings in my area?
Answer: We can if you are willing to assist the Chapter with coordinating a meeting / meetings.
Q12. How can I get most advantages out of my Chapter membership?
Answer: By reading the literature you receive and networking within the opportunities. By volunteering to be on project and development panels. By certifying to one or more PMI standards. By earning PDU’s through exco or other participation.
Q13. Should I be member of both the Chapter and PMSA?
Answer: That is your choice through comparing what literature is included in the membership tariff and what volunteering you want to do. If you have time to do both and the standards of both make sense, you can be member of both. The Chapter’s approach is mainly global PMI products and standards, whereas in PMSA there is a strong local focus and a spread of standards.
Q14. How do I join PMI?
Answer: To apply (and pay) for membership, the easiest and safest way is to do it via the web, using your credit card. Go to www.pmi.org and click on "Membership" in the top menu. Then click on "Benefits of Membership" and follow the link "Join or renew today" in the top right hand side. Follow the links for the type of membership you want, probably "Individual Member". When you click on "Join or renew now" the form will give you a choice to apply or renew. In the text you will see a highlight for "Chapter" - click on it and you will get a list of chapters. Click on South Africa should you wish to join the PMI SA Chapter. You will be given the cost to join which you add to your cart. As the fees do change from year to year, the current costs can be obtained on the PMI website (www.pmi.org) under “Membership”. Follow the checkout for payment.
Q15. How do I become PMP Certified?
Answer: To apply, prepare yourself and sit for the exam for all the PMI credentials. It is recommended that you download the appropriate handbook (eg. PMP) from http://www.pmi.org/CareerDevelopment/Pages/Obtaining-Credential.aspx and study it in detail. It will also provide you with information and choices of exam venues (globally, so you can choose the most appropriate for you).
Q16. How do I update my PDU’s?
Answer: Go to http://www.pmi.org/Certification/Maintain-Your-Credential.aspx and click on the “Report PDUs” button. Log in using you username and password and follow the instructions.
