Current President: Valerie van der Klis, PMP
Valerie van der Klis has been in the project management industry since 1996. She started her project management career as a project administrator in the project management industry and worked herself up through all the various project management roles i.e. project administrator / leader / manager and programme manager. The companies that Valerie worked for were mainly in the Consulting field providing project management services to a number of companies in different industries i.e. IT, Finance, Freight, Banking, Food and Beverages. The services provided to these clients include project delivery of technical implementations to business process improvement implementations. She currently works for allabout project management as their Executive for core implementations i.e. PMO’s.
Valerie is passionate about her project management volunteering engagement as she sees this as a means to give back to a community that supported her in her project management career. She started in 2005 as a volunteer on the PMSA Johannesburg branch exco and ITSIG. Valerie then moved to one of PMI’s standard setting projects the OPM3 ® 2008 Update team and served on the core team from 2006 until 2008 when the standard was published by PMI. She joined the PMI SA Chapter executive in 2007 and has served as the President.
Valerie believes that sharing the benefits of good organisational project management practices with peers and the industry at large will assist organisations to improve their existing organizational project management processes for the organisation’s benefit and strategic realization.
Roles and Responsibilities
The President shall be the chief executive officer for the PMI SA Chapter and of the Executive Committee. The President shall perform such duties as are customary for presiding officers, including making all required appointments with the approval of the Executive Committee.
Duties of the President include:
- Preside over all Executive Committee meetings.
- Report to the Board
- Work with the Executive Committee to develop goals and plans for the year.
- Direct the activities of the other officers.
- Appoint Nominating Committee members.
- Appoint members to vacant Executive Committee positions, subject to the Executive Committee's approval.
- Appoint committees and committee chairpersons, with the Executive Committee's approval.
- Communicate information of importance to the PMI® and the PMI SA Chapter membership.
- Review all PMI SA Chapter reports, newsletters, etc.
- Appoint advisors, directors, committee chairpersons, etc.
- Serve as primary liaison to PMI®.
- Support a clean and timely turnover of the PMI SA Chapter record to the position's successor.
- Oversee the preparation and submittal of the Chapter Annual Renewal Survey.
- Maintain PMI SA Chapter Charter agreement document per PMI procedures
- Provide input into the PMI SA Chapter strategy and budget
- Provide input into all PMI SA Chapter governance documents including the Operations Plan
- Assisting with the PMF Scorecard

Vice President - Membership: Peter Raw, PMP
Peter Raw was born in Durban, and completed his BSc Civil Engineering at the University of Natal in 1993. Since then he has managed a wide variety of Projects throughout Southern Africa. These projects include Marine Work, Road Construction, Bridge Construction, Infrastructure and just about anything else to do with Civil Engineering. Peter was registered as a PrEng in 2001 and PMP in 2005. He is married and has two little boys to keep him out of mischief when he is not doing sport.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintain a membership drive, including providing application forms and PMI® information to potential members.
- Advise all Executive Committee members of all new members. Ensure that PMI® and PMI SA Chapter membership records are reconciled.
- Obtain names and addresses of first time guests at PMI SA Chapter meetings. Issue membership packet and welcome to all first time guests.
- Upon receipt of the updated membership directory, follow-up on the members who have failed to pay current dues.
- Maintain an up-to-date membership list; provide other officers with frequent updates as required for their responsibilities.
- Write a PMI SA Chapter introduction letter upon receipt of names from PMI® of individuals who have requested information from the international organization.
- Develop and implement a Member Recruiting and Retention Plan.
- Develop and implement a Member Needs Assessment Survey.
- Support a clean and timely turnover of PMI SA Chapter records to the position's successor.
- Provide input into the PMI SA Chapter strategy and budget.
- Provide input into all PMI SA Chapter governance documents including the Operations Plan.
- Assisting with the PMF Scorecard.
Vice President – Finance: Kishoor Pitamber, PMP
Kishoor Pitamber, a founding shareholder and Director of Siris Engineering (Pty) Ltd, has gained experience in the field of Engineering and Project Management after completing his studies in Engineering. His experience is varied from infrastructure planning, design and optimization to the specialized implementation of large projects. His management acumen and interests has steered his career to the field of Programme management. Kishoor also has an MBA and DBA in Entrepreneurship. Kishoor currently gives guidance on various Boards and lectures at post graduate level at the University of Free State.
Kishoor has implemented projects in Africa, India, China, Australia and Thailand. His passion for managing large scale projects is demonstrated in the management of infrastructure projects worth billions of rands over the last five years. He is equally passionate about the upliftment of communities and currently manages social development projects in Gauteng, the Free State and Lesotho.Roles and Responsibilities
- Act for the President in his/her absence and assumes the office of President if vacant.
- Prepare and maintain financial records of all PMI SA Chapter moneys' received from dues, dinner meeting payments, etc., and pay all bills. Promptly deposit all funds received.
- Develop an annual operating budget for the fiscal year, for approval by the Executive Committee.
- Prepare financial reports on the activities and financial status of the PMI SA Chapter.
- Manage all financial arrangements for meetings and special events, including the registration desk, collection of fees, and payment to meeting place.
- Ensure conformance to South African regulations.
- Support a timely and clean turnover of PMI SA Chapter records to the position's successor.
- Provide input into all PMI SA Chapter governance documents including the Operations Plan.
- Assisting with the PMF Scorecard.
Vice President – Marketing and Communication: Alan Bezuidenhout, PMP
Deputy Vice President - Marketing and Communication: Geoff Fitzhenry, PMP
Geoff spent the first 16 years of his working life, first as a pilot in the SAAF and then as a mechanical engineer involved with logistics support. After a brief stint as a quality auditor and then assistant general manager of a number of companies, he joined an aviation development company in Midrand in 1999, where he his responsible for the review and improvement of the company's business management system.

Volunteer Newsletters – Marketing and Communication: Mark Wilson, PMP
Mark Wilson was born in Durban a long time ago and completed his B.Comm in 1978. He started out in the IT industry in 1974 when assembler, punch cards and 8K discs were the norm. After spending some time in the UK he returned to SA and has so far accumulated over 20 years of project management expertise. After obtaining his PMP in 2006 he has strictly adhered to the PMBoK methodology at his current employer, Medscheme. He is the Alpha tester of project management software for a well known project management company as well as having given talks on the methodogy at breakfasts and the institutes monthly meetings.
Volunteer Webmaster – Marketing and Communication: Kishore Katireddi
Roles and Responsibilities
- Notify chapter membership not less than fourteen (14) days prior to each chapter meeting.
- Notify membership not less than thirty (30) business days before all special meetings approved by the President.
- E- mail timely notices to the membership of all scheduled activities and general meetings (including their location, date, time and subject matter) as well as, all other PMI SA Chapter business that requires notification to the membership. Solicit sponsors for expenses.
- Submit regular information of PMI SA Chapter activities for publication in the PMI SA Chapter scene of the PMI® Today newspaper, and other publications as required.
- Coordinate the development/issuance of a chapter newsletter (as Executive Committee prescribes).
- Support a timely and clean turnover of PMI SA Chapter records to the position's successor.

Vice President – Programs: Khaya Mbanga, PMP
Khaya has more than 6 years as a project manager. He holds a BSc degree in Computer Science, which he obtained from UPE in 2000. He also has a Diploma in Advance Business Management obtained from RAU in 2004. He gained his international accreditation with the Project Management Institute (PMI) in November 2007, becoming a Project Management Professional (PMP®) in the process.
He joined Spoornet in 2001 as an information analyst where he was involved in various projects as a member. He was promoted to junior manager/ project manager in 2004 and worked his way to be Projects & MIS Manager. He took an opportunity to work in the banking sector, and has been running projects for FNB branch banking division. In the beginning of March 2008 he started with a financial services consulting company called Cyan ES as a project manager to expand his financial services and consulting career.
He has since joined Deloitte Consulting as a senior consultant, working within the Technology service line in implementing technology integration solutions.

Deputy Vice President – Programs: Thully Masilela
Roles and Responsibilities
- Recommend an annual calendar of events for Executive Committee approval prior to the annual meeting. The calendar of events shall run from January 1 through December 31 of the current year. Schedule Chapter meetings so that they do not conflict with the annual PMI Seminar/Symposium or PMSA meetings.
- Manage all physical arrangements for the meetings (January 1 through December 31), coordinate the facilities required of other officers, and arrange with the facilities personnel for (1) seating arrangements, (2) timing of events, and (3) special equipment, projectors, microphones, flip charts, display tables, etc.
- Arrange for accommodations of speakers including dinners, gifts, special equipment, etc.
- Develop a backup agenda in the event of speaker/schedule conflicts.
- Prepare the program meeting notice, including a brief bio-sketch of the speaker and the topic in time for it to be included in the newsletter which must be mailed no later than 14 days prior to each meeting.
- Coordinate with Meeting Coordinators a list of pre-registered attendees, including meal selections and payment status.
- Plan the PMI SA Chapter's special events such as social events, field trips, and seminars.
- Provide input into the PMI SA Chapter strategy and budget.
- Provide input into all PMI SA Chapter governance documents including the Operations Plan.
- Assisting with the PMF Scorecard.
- Support a timely and clean turnover of PMI SA Chapter records to the position's successor.
Vice President – Administration: Dominique Kruger
After matriculating in 2000, Dominique studied a BSc (Hons) at Wits. She then went on to study a Postgrad Diploma in Business Management through the Wits Business School. After an internship at ABB Dominique joined ELB Engineering and have since been involved in planning many construction projects. She has worked for Group Five Engineering Projects since 2008, and is a member of the Arbitration Association of South Africa. Her interests include yoga, running, hiking and outdoors.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Prepare the PMI SA Chapter Annual report for submission to PMI® Headquarters.
- Prepare submissions for PMI® Awards.
- Keep records of all meetings and prepare and issue minutes of such meetings within ten (10) business days of the meeting to the Executive Committee of Directors.
- Direct the preparation of Annual report to the PMI SA Chapter members including coordinating submissions from other Executive Committee members for distribution at the annual business meeting.
- Maintain up-to-date records of the local chapter membership mailings. The administrator shall place the current PMI® Headquarters on the local PMI SA Chapter mailing list.
- Support a clean and timely turnover of PMI SA Chapter records to the position's successor.
- Maintain written record of all resolutions and decisions.
- Provide input into the PMI SA Chapter strategy and budget.
- Provide input into all PMI SA Chapter governance documents.
- Assisting with the PMF Scorecard.
- Ensure the Operations Plan is updated by all VP’s in the PMI SA Chapter.
- Maintain records such that they are available for inspection for a period of not less than three years.
Vice President – Professional Development: Ayo Oladejo, PMP
Ayo is a project manager with the advantage of having subject matter expertise in diverse IT and Telecoms fields; He has a BSc degree in Mathematics and the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. He has consulted for private and public institutions in his line of work for the past 8 years.
Ayo has successfully managed network overhaul projects s for two leading Telecoms operations in Africa. His passion for mobile data products has helped operators to improve on their Average Revenue Per User. His recent efforts brought a very low populated African country on to the map of the biggest Mobile Internet users in the world. He seeks to open up possibilities for young Africans to discover themselves and do exploits.
A creative thinker and business developer, Ayo has been involved in a number of start-ups and innovations. He runs a blog at www.ayooladejo.com. He is co-author of a book titled – Global Process, Local Reality – a book that chronicles the participation of African youths in the World Summit on the Information Society process. He loves writing and is pursuing an interest in photography at the moment. Ayobami is married and blessed with a beautiful daughter.

Deputy Vice President - Professional Development: Vacant
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop and manage a coordinated, yearlong program to enhance the professional development (PD) of members of the PMI SA Chapter.
- Ensure that all Professional Development activities support the needs and desires of the business and educational communities within South Africa.
- Establish lines of communication with those communities for program guidance.
- Participate, along with the President, Vice President - Programs, and the chapter Professional Programs Steering Committee. This committee will coordinate all program, education, and Professional Development activity within the chapter.
- Coordinate the registration process at Professional Development events working with the Vice President - Finance.
- Develop and coordinate educational activities.
- Plan and coordinate certification workshops.
- Interface with PMI® on:
• PMI Standards revisions.
• Standards and accreditation.

Deputy Vice President - Outreach: Boet du Plessis
Boet du Plessis, is a senior partner in Kusa Kusa Project Management and Consulting Services cc. His responsibilities include construction project management, all Institutional management related activities, financial management, macro and micro planning, project development proposals, client liaison, Government liaison, International relations and facilitating the process of International and regional co-operation agreements.
Boet has been involved with project management since 1995 where he managed a group of professional people in the office of the Premier to assist Government in achieving its developmental targets within the International co-operation framework; he has since then acted as a Municipal Councillor and member of the executive committee responsible for finance and engineering.
Boet is passionate about project management and always strives to succeed with every challenge that calls for careful planning. He ensures that personal development and professionalism remain high on his agenda. He is currently project manager for Spirit of Africa Developments focussing on the construction industry. Boet has been a member of PMI since 2007.

- Oversee the relationship with the local colleges, businesses, and any external interface.
- Liaise and work with previously disadvantaged communities.

- Assisting volunteers who wish to become leaders within the PMI SA Chapter.

Chairman: Carel van Zyl PrCPM, PrEng
Carel has been member of PMI since 1982 and participated through much of its growth and also the development of PM.
He volunteered to be secretary of the chapter in 1982 and eventually was PMI SA Chapter President in the late 80’s. For a number of years he did a PMI SA Chapter newsletter, before it was replaced with an outsourced ProjectPro.
In 1988 he qualified as PMP number 213. He has re-qualified in 2004 and again in 2008.
He has attended many USA and other PM conferences earlier years and helped Prof Dave Cleland to draw up the previous generation of questionnaires for the PMP exam of which he presented the communication module to aspirant PMP’s here is SA.he delivers papers from time to time in various PM subjects.
In 2007 he became Chairman of PMI SA Chapter Board. He also a Fellow and serves on the PMSA Board since its formation in 1997, in which he participated.
Carel is a practising Project Manager and most recently he was project manager on a very successful fast track new brewery project, whilst the new Natalspruit 760 bed hospital also is included in his portfolio. He is line manager of ninety technical and PM staff in the consulting engineering firm he works for and has been employed by them for 37 years.

Director: Jaycee Kruger, PMP
Jaycee’s experience in Project Management has been gained in the engineering- procurement-, construction-, and commissioning management of industrial and mining plants collected over some 30 plus years, of which about 10 years were in a position of executive management managing various functional departments at an international engineering- and project house, executing projects globally.
Since 2007 he has been the Managing Director of Mhlegahlatini (Pty) Ltd (trading as Greybeards Inc) a consulting company specialising in the improvement of project delivery capability of its clients.
Jaycee is a certified PMP with PMI - Reg No: 724 (1991 - present) and a Pr.Tech.(Eng.) Civil Engineering with ECSA – Reg.No: 8970039 (1983-2009)
