Synopsis of Talk:
Earned Value Management (EVM) is still reflected as a technique in most project management training; yet, many project professionals are quite skeptical about the value EVM really adds to their projects. In the same vein, many project managers will probably not appreciate what “project controls” did for their projects, let alone unto them – their experience might suggest that project controls was there just to frustrate the project manager in his efforts to deliver on time, on budget, and to specifications. It is probably because of these reasons, among others, that the notion of Earned Value based Project Controls (EVM-Project Controls) is largely failing to resonate with and excite many a project manager. However, having successfully implemented such a practice in delivering large and complex projects, a growing number of organisations would recommend EVM-Project Controls as an effective approach to mitigating risks of cost and schedule overruns. What lessons could be learned from those champions?
