Dealing with Construction Project Risk
Speaker: Ian Rushton
Synopsis of talk: This presentation will discuss the typical risks that are experienced on infrastructure projects from the point of view of the Engineering Consultant.
Speaker bio: Ian is a graduate engineer who has worked in the field of public water and sanitation infrastructure and services for the past 35 years. His work experience has been gained in Southern Africa and India, in employment of public water boards and private sector engineering consultancy firms. He has been working in a project environment for the past 20 years and is currently employed by Royal HaskoningDHV in their Msunduzi Office in Pietermaritzburg. In 2013, he obtained his PMI-PMP certification and this year he plans to start preparing for the PMI-RMP certification exam.
Ian is passionate about community and governance. He and his wife Anita, are also educators and trainers in the field of HIV and AIDS and have been activists in some of the diverse activist responses needed to respond to the pandemic. Together they have four children and two grandchildren (with 2 more on the way).
In this talk, we will discuss the range of risks that arise in infrastructure projects, from design through to construction and entry into operation, and risk responses and management.
