During this time he worked for two corporates before starting his own company in 2005 in the Architectural Coatings/Decorative Concrete industry. By 2009 he had sold the assets of the company, retained the name and signed a distributor. He now works for ROV Durrant Engineering as a project manager. He is also currently enrolled at NMMU to earn his MBA focusing on Project Management, Entrepreneurship, and International Management. While accomplishing this he also has one daughter aged 2 years, a lovely wife named Judy and a four legged 'son' called Bullit who he brought back from the USA.

18 December 2012

Note from the PMI SA Chapter President:

As we look back on 2012 as it draws to an end,  it has been a really busy, challenging and largely a successful year for a lot of our members. I would like to reflect on some of our successes we as Chapter have achieved:

KZN Chapter
This year Chapter was able to launch the KZN branch which has run quite a few successful meetings and we look forward to what 2013 will bring.  We are very grateful to the volunteers who have been part of this journey. Ben Govindsamy is still the branch lead for KZN and he can be reached via emailkznbranchleader@pmi.org.za.

PMI Certification Dinner
PMI SA Chapter hosted their second PMI Certification Dinner on 1 November 2012.  Despite our key note speaker, Frank Saladis, being stranded in New York as a result of Superstorm Sandy,  the team was still able to pull of a successful dinner.  We look forward to our third dinner in 2013 which will be held 7 November 2013.  International Project Management day is normally scheduled for the first Thursday of November.

Gauteng Chapter
The Chapter Executive recently formed the Gauteng branch officially. An official launch will take place on the 17 January 2013.  In the past when there were no branches within Chapter, the Chapter Executive themselves, would arrange all the events especially the meetings in Johannesburg.

In the recent Executive meeting a decision was made by the Executive that a Gauteng branch needed to be formed, which would exclusively focus on the events for Gauteng and the Executive would focus on the Chapter's overall strategy.

We are very grateful and excited that Dominique Mulholland has agreed to assume the role as the Gauteng branch lead.  Many of you may know Dominique in her previous role as VP Admin where she provided significant impact with responding and assisting with all queries.  Dominique can be contacted at this email address:  gpbranchlead@pmi.org.za.

One of our next projects for 2013 is the establishment of the Western Cape branch as well as some satellite branches based on demand.  We will be advertising for positions on the PMI Volunteer Relationship Management System in due course: Go to the
Volunteer Relationship Management System

For those of you who are working through the December period we hope that you are able to achieve all those projects or initiatives planned for this time.

Public Exposure Review of the New Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide and OPM3® Third Edition
The public exposure review of two standards, the new Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide, and OPM3® Third Edition is now open.

The Software Extension to the PMBOK® Guide provides guidance to software developers and managers on the application of project management approaches to their development projects. The extension, which has been developed as a joint project between IEEE Computer Society and PMI Standards, describes both the predictive approaches found in the PMBOK® Guide as well as iterative, incremental approaches such as Agile.

Organizational Project Management Maturity Model (OPM3®) Third Edition is a revision of the previous Second Edition, and provides a model for organizations to use to measure and enhance their maturity with respect to the use of project management within the organization.

Anyone interested in reviewing and commenting on these two draft standards is welcome to participate in the review. Review and comment on these draft standards between 10 December 2012 and 10 January 2013.
